What's inside every spoonful.
Why smoke point actually matters.
Smoke point is the temperature at which an oil starts to break down and produce harmful compounds. Higher = safer for high-heat Indian cooking like tempering and frying.
At 175°C, our wood-pressed coconut oil is the Goldilocks zone for Indian cooking — high enough for tempering and shallow-frying, low enough to preserve flavour molecules. Refined oils go higher but lose all character along the way.
Three Kerala recipes, three new ways to use it.
From quick tempering to slow stews — recipes our team cooks at home, tested with our own bottles.

Heritage refined.Now lab-certified.
It began in 1965, when our grandfather first pressed coconut oil at our Kolazhy origin. Three generations later, the process he refined is unchanged. What has changed is the proof— every batch is now lab-tested for purity. Every bottle, QR-traceable to its lab report.

Questions · no hedge.
What's the difference between this and VCO Organic Premium? +
Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil is wood-pressed from sun-dried copra at our chekku mill · cooking-grade · daily-use price. VCO Organic Premium is cold-centrifuged from fresh coconut milk · NPOP organic certified · premium wellness use. Same Kolazhy origin · different process · different intended use.
What is chekku? +
Chekku is the traditional Kerala wood press for extracting oil from copra (sun-dried coconut). The wooden press is turned slowly (no heat from friction) and yields a deep aromatic oil. Our chekku mill at Kolazhy has been operating since 1965.
Is this safe for high-heat cooking? +
Yes. Smoke point ~175°C · safe for tempering, shallow frying, sautéing, and Kerala-style high-heat cooking. For deep-frying repeatedly at very high heat (200°C+), refined oils have a higher tolerance · but you lose flavour.
How does it compare to ghee for daily cooking? +
Replaces ghee 1:1 in most South Indian recipes. Plant-based · cholesterol-free · adds a distinct coconut aroma that pairs beautifully with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and red chillies.
Why is it more expensive than supermarket coconut oil? +
Supermarket coconut oils are typically refined or solvent-extracted on industrial scale. Ours is traditionally wood-pressed at our small-batch chekku mill from a single origin. Higher cost per litre · but aromatic, traceable, and supporting Kerala chekku heritage.
Why is the oil solid in winter? +
Coconut oil solidifies below 24°C. This is normal and a sign of purity. Place the bottle in warm water to liquefy.
How long does it last after opening? +
12 months unopened · 6 months opened when stored in a cool, dark place. No refrigeration needed.
From the same Kolazhy origin.
Wellness, baby care, and spices · the rest of the Naturish family.
Three generations.
One chekku mill.
Wood-pressed at our Kolazhy chekku since 1965. Cooking-grade craft · daily-use price · same single origin.
